Closet Cleanup

One may consider purging their closet to be a simple household chore but for others, such as myself, it can be an emotionally charged experience. The event usually leaves me horrified (at what no longer fits) and full of regret (for pieces that have seen better days). However, my most recent closet cleanup was actually an uplifting experience.  This time I decided to hire Wendy Woods of the Refinery for moral support and to help me get a working wardrobe that would make my life easier while keeping me looking my best.  As an entrepreneur and mother of two little girls, my free time is more valuable than gold!  Thankfully, Wendy approaches each client with their lifestyles in mind.

As I waved goodbye to my circa 1990 Christian Lacroix multi-printed, way-too-small tank dress (as well as dozens more pieces), I said hello to my many hidden gems that had been lost in the masses. Now I know what they mean by ‘less is more’; purging half of my wardrobe has in fact tripled my outfits!   So, if you have limited time, difficulty letting go of pieces that simply don’t suit you anymore, or want tips on how to build an awesome new wardrobe with pieces you already own, bring Wendy Woods of the Refinery to your closet!

Wendy Woods: Versatile Summer Tops

The key to choosing the perfect summer shirt/blouse/top in Canada is to find a piece that looks great on its own for summer but can also be worn under a layer in the winter months.

Whether neutral or brightly coloured, femininely frilly or classic with a sporty racer-back twist, all of these pieces are a great year ’round addition to your wardrobe!

Wendy Woods: Easy to Wear Summer Dresses

Summer dresses are the most fun thing to buy. Each spring season I add a couple of new ones to my collection and wear them with cute flats all summer long! While its still chilly these light-weight frocks can be worn with a pair of tights and a sweater to keep you warm.

I love the bright blue colour of this silk piece by Véronique Miljkovitch.

The shape of this mymommadethat dress is easy to wear.

Plus, this jersey number from Zuzanium is a no-brainer!

Easily dress them up with elaborate accessories for evening or wear them comfortably on their own during the day.

Wendy Woods: Tips on Layering for Spring

So many of my clients struggle with what to wear to keep warm on Spring days and Summer nights. Each of these versatile pieces can be used to create different outfits day after day. I see the blush colored Faren vest just as easily worn over a long sleeve jersey dress as with a tank top and jeans. The purple Stacey Zhang piece is an ultra-feminine alternative to a cardigan when worn open or can be a beautiful shirt when tied closed. The gray Stacey Zhang vest is an elegant way to create a sleeve for a summer evening dress or can be worn as a vest over any shirt. These stylish layering pieces are a perfect way to keep warm and update your wardrobe for Spring 2010!

New Year Fun!

This time of year coincides with a lot of thinking, talking, and writing about New Year’s resolutions.  I had a fabulous conversation with a cousin of mine about her resolutions for 2010.  She said her resolution was to go to on a trip to a new country this year.  That resolution really hit me – I love how positive and fun it is!

We can get so wrapped up in making resolutions focused on fixing something about ourselves that we forget about resolutions that would add laughter and fun into our lives.  Since then I thought of a few other feel-good resolutions:

  • Tell a silly joke every morning at work
  • Smile and say hello to at least one stranger everyday
  • Take a yoga retreat to an exotic location like Costa Rica
  • Celebrate one day with a bottle of expensive champagne
  • Treat yourself to a personal style coach

Imagine a list of New Year’s resolutions that you are excited to complete, rather than one you are procrastinating.  Not only will it be fun to tick off all the items, you will give yourself a pat on the back because each item is complete!

I love it!

Wendy
