REcreate: upcycled furniture by Katie Thompson
I have not been able to get these designs out of my head since I stumbledupon the work of Katie Thompson early last week. Thompson produces furniture, lighting, and various interior accessories from “up-cycled” objects.
Based out of South Africa her interior design company REcreate specializes in recycled furniture and strives “for the unconventional and unique in every project.” My personal favorite is her suitcase chair (pictured below).
Her concept is similar to Shopgirls own Salvage Interiors and Gilbert Vandenheuvel but the aesthetic is completely her own.
Emerging Designers Next to Established ones at Holt Renfrew!
Every year, students graduating from the Fashion Design program at Ryerson University are lucky enough to have representatives from Holt Renfrew view their 4th year collections. Even more exciting is the opportunity for fifteen of the designers to have their collections displayed inside Holt Renfrew during the summer. Thousands of people walk through there every month, and in July they were able to see up and coming designer pieces right next to high end, successful international lines. Amazing!

For the month of July, garments from the chosen collections were featured on mannequins inside the Holts on Bloor Street West. Work by designers such as Aneta Sofronova, Sacha Columbia, Jana Yee, Genna Pearson, Dez Bara-Assi, Katie Lee, Hillary Sampliner, Alexandra Strickler and some other wonderful gems could be found throughout the store. I snapped a few pics in case you weren’t rockin’ it on Bloor Street last month and wanted to check out Canada’s young new talent.
Love Forever,
Jade
P.S. My collection of street wear for dudes was in there too! See bottom middle image.
